Now that the seasons over I can give it a full review. I’m blown away at how effortlessly this board carves. I’ve ridden it on icy days, and slushy days, and everything in between and it never fails to impress. From black diamonds to the park to just cruising, this board does it all. I am beyond satisfied and cannot express how happy I am with this board.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

‘…cannot express how happy I am with this boards.’ Thx Matt!

I just wanted to say after 5 rides this board absolutely rips. It excels at everything. I am convinced now that the rocker in the center and camber under foot is the best snowboard profile. It feels stiff when ripping carves, but it is flexible in the center when doing flat ground tricks. It’s amazing to get this kind of versatility out of one board. It has destroyed everything in New England like groomers, ice, slush, absolute garbage and there is no spaghetti edge or other marketing stuff needed. So pumped with this purchase and seriously appreciate that it is made in the USA. Thanks a million and hope to pick up another when this one is ready for retirement!

      Thx Mike!

Updated from a 159W Proto2 to a 159DF Protosynthesis this year. First few runs wasn’t sure, it’s definitely stiffer in both length and twist. Then I applied a little more pressure and dropped my hips deeper into the turn and OMG this is the best board ever! Snaps out of turns regular and switch, super stable at speed, holds an edge, butters like a dream and, the 28cm waist keeps my heelside bindings out of the snow, which the 26.2 cm wide Proto 2 did not. If you want to ride like Ryan Knapton this board will do it while also being super playful.

‘OMG this is the best board ever.’ Thx Mark!

I love trying out new boards and generally buy a couple a year. I’ve been eyeing up NS for a while and hadn’t pulled the trigger yet. Recently I sold my main two boards and needed to “re-stock” so I ordered the Proto Synthesis and a couple days later another Warpig (in a larger size this time). The PS arrived before the ‘Pig even shipped so I took it out right away. Holy. Sh*t! I haven’t had this much fun on a board since I first linked turns! This board is simply amazing. After that first day I immediately canceled my Warpig order. My only regret is that I didn’t grab this thing earlier in the season.
For reference I’m 145lbs with size 10.5-11 boots. I got a 154X and it’s perfect for me. Easy to play around but absolutely locks in a carve like it’s on rails. Get one; you won’t regret it!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

What’s a Warpig? Haha Thx Aaron!

  5. Matt (verified owner)

Have been riding all camber boards since the late 90’s. This profile feels awesome after that! Riding just got even more fun for this old dad!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

‘Riding just got even more fun…’ Thx Matt!

  6. Livingston Boulerice

Got this board right around Christmas, lucked out by purchasing it from someone who was a bit too spoiled and wasn’t happy with the size (I guess?). Riding a 160X at 5’11”, 180lbs, but man does this thing still shred. Had my 7th day on it today at Breck and it handled like a champ through all terrains. It floated through powder, but held when I was running through the crunchy stuff with ease. It’s responsive enough to bomb through the trees with confidence, and has enough pop to hit the park still. It’s definitely more forgiving than boards I’ve had in the past, and makes for a fun day regardless of the weather on mountain. I can only imagine how much more fun the board would be if I actually fit it properly!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Thx Livingston!

  7. Darrin Costner (verified owner)

My first NS board was the Proto CT, and the Proto Synthesis definitely lives up to the challenge of following in a line of great all mountain boards. I will never own another board that’s not Never Summer!!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Thx Darrin!

  8. Colin Dion (verified owner)

There isn’t alot to say that has already been done, I love my photosynthesis! It will be a long time before I ride anything else

    NS for life

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

You said it all Colin. Thx!

Cant rave about this board enough. Took it to Big Bear yesterday. Sweet jesus. Edge hold, stability, dampening, and pop. Ate through ice, slush, and everything else. Didnt think i would feel rocker/camber combo work as much, but it definitely made a difference! Edge hold was like a kung fu grip on the slope. Landed a few midsized jumps like it was nothing. i usually dont go for jumps but i feel confident with this board. All i can say is the board’s reliability is on a different level. Also, the customer service is excellent. Called to ask about status and they were right on with delivery. Purchased the ladies’ version for my girl and she also loved it. We’ll be rocking with these boards for our honeymoon! Im honestly only buying Never Summer boards from now on.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

…on a different level. Thx pmparas! Enjoy your honeymoon!

  10. Quinn

I got a 162DF and it’s amazing!!! I’m 6’3” with a size 12 boot and I’ve yet to drag a toe or heel in my deepest carves. It’ll plow through whatever’s in front of you and pop like crazy. I have 3 other NS decks and I ride this one the most. It’s really versatile, holds edge for days, and rally’s like a twin should. Super stable and stupid fun 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 NSFL!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Stupid fun! Thx Quinn.

I was hesitant to buy a new board. I hadn’t purchased a board since 2008 and wasn’t really sure what I was looking for. I have been riding for a long time but didn’t go frequently until last year. I found this site and read the reviews, did some research, ended up on the Proto Synthesis. When it showed up, I went up that day. People around me probably thought I was crazy as I laughed to myself going down the mountain. This board seriously is on another level. It made me feel like a new rider. It was easier to ride switch, easier to carve in powder or ice. Extremely forgiving float. This board ruined all other boards for me. I will likely end up with more Never Summer boards in the future and can’t recommend this enough. Treat yourself to what snowboarding should feel like and get this board. Extremely friendly and helpful staff as well.

I’m 5′-8″, 175lbs riding a 154 Wide and I find it to be the perfect size and weight for me.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

‘Treat yourself to what snowboarding should feel like…’ Thx parsleykory!

This is my third never summer. Dates are fuzzy but after my first couple boards I made the switch and started off with the raptor in 2011, the evo around 2015, and now the protosynthesis in 2021. Got a board for everything at this point. Took it for its maiden voyage at seven springs in PA and wow. I’ve never carved so hard and been so stable at speed. My buddy was watching me drag my elbow in the snow on a black in front of the hotel and was like “wtf how?!?!?” To be honest I was thinking the same thing but I played it cool obviously haha.

I was having a 2 week long conversation with this same friend about how there is no way that technology in a simple mostly-flat piece of wood is still evolving that much in the last 5 years. But it really has. We got hit by a storm on our last day at SS and it performed great in all the conditions thrown at it. Eyeballing the protoslinger for myself next season.

Sidenote, she still has just enough flex to get away with some flatland freestyle stuff which I enjoy the most.

If you are on the fence, just buy it, you won’t regret

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

Thx Derek…innovation is still going strong on our ‘flat pieces of wood’. Wait until you ride Triple Camber…biggest innovation in snowboarding since Rocker Camber!

  13. Kevin Wicherski (verified owner)

All-mountain Slayer. Looking to seek and destroy?? Look no further!!!! Hauls ass with incredible edge hold and has an insane amount of pop with the additional camber added in this year.

Rode my ProtoSynthesis for the first time this weekend after the proper CA Blizzard, performed in the deeps as well with amazing float!

Killer customer support and staff. American made. Enough said.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Thx Kevin!

Never Summer boards are gnarly. I have had them in the past and after going to a Rome, I shared desire for another Never Summer dearly. You can read all the other comments to why this board is phenomenal, I want to share how incredible their customer support is. I had an issue and Never Summer pulled through HUGE. You have every reason to buy this board for its capabilities on the mountain but I will forever buy Never Summer not only for their boards, but the people behind them. I’m so jacked to shred this deck!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Flattered Jacob. Thx!

  15. Sam Hansuld (verified owner)

Neversummer boards are the best. They easily absorb all the bumps and whoops that stand in the way. The protosynthesis is no different. It’s a true twin dynamo and rides switch every bit as good regular. Made in the USA in Denver, CO. I’ll never ride anything else.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      You’re a dynamo Sam! Thx

  16. vinjpjames (verified owner)

Dude this board kills it!! Havent got a big Baker pow day yet but today was my first day on it making the switch from Lib Tech. I will NEVER go back. This board rides so smooth and having great pop, and having the 162 DF with size 13 boot is amazing!! I don’t think I have ever ridden a board this smooth, stable and damp ever!! I could barely feel any bumps. Go with this, this is the board. Take it from someone working at the mountain where it only rains😉….

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Never go back! Thx James.

  17. Ramon Carrillo

Hi, I’m on my 4th Never Summer Board, had the warlock, revolver, Proto asym 2 and now this board… it’s still pretty catch free, which I have always liked, but now a whole lot grippier than before because of the camber, I’m also glad they made it a normal true twin and not asymmetrical, it feels a whole lot better this way.

I’ve ridden many other boards like the ride warpig, bataleon evil twin to name a few…. I guess I’m a Never Summer kinda guy.

I’m 230lbs 5”11”, ex 33 year surfer turned snowboarder. ride lots of switch and living in Vancouver, most of the time the snow sucks. I’m riding a 160X, worked well in shitty conditions and floated very well in good snow.

    Hope this review helps

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

Glad you’re a Never Summer guy Ramon! Thx

  18. Matt W

After having spent the last few months on this board, all I can say is WOW. The shockwave camber adds a whole new level to this board, pop wise and carving wise. The width is perfect for the park and pow with the carvablility for anything you want to take it to. This is the perfect board for anybody looking to go anywhere and everywhere on the mountain.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Thx Matt…WOW!

  19. Ron V (verified owner)

I’ve never rode a board this sick! My first never summer and it won’t be my last, I’m an all mountain ripper/ park guy and this is the perfect all around board, thanks NS!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Glad your on board Ron!

  20. Brendan Thorson

To put it simply… WOW! This board is amazing. This is my second board now. I’m coming from an 08 Rossignol Jdub 154 to a Proto 157x I’m 5’9” 190lbs with a 10.5 boot. I was really worried about getting a new board since I’ve only had one. I strapped into the Proto and instantly knew that it was going to be a fun day. I am a fast aggressive rider and this board felt as stable as could be. More so than my last. I felt more comfortable on this board than I ever have. The turn initiation is effortless, high speeds it stayed planted and was an absolute joy to carve. Had some good pow too and was over joyed with the way it handled it. Never summer thank you for designing this. It is all I could have ever wanted.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

Thx Brendan. So the ProtoSynthesis made you feel instantly at home, was more stable, the turn initiation was effortless, tracked well, was a joy to carve, and floated in pow…just wanted to be clear. Wonder why everyone isn’t riding one?!?

    Precise. Poppy. Agile. Fun
Early season hardpack-no problem. Moguls- Quick and agile. Pow!-Bring it on. I’m so impressed with this board. I tested it last season and found that it rode pretty well, but it did not compare to the joy I was having on my Westbound. This year, I narrowed my stance a little and wow, it’s now my daily driver for all things. I found the sweet spot and it’s performing on machine-made hardpack better than any board in my quiver. We just recieved some Christmas pow and it dominated through the soft fluff and mogully push-piles at the end of the day. I’m 5’9″, 170lbs, 30″ inseam. For this board at 155cm, my preference is a 21.5″ stance width (center to center of binding discs); Duck angles 12, -9. Because I like my front foot more angled than the back, I set my stance back one set of inserts which allows the nose to be a slight bit longer and still rides effortlessly switch. My personal preference is to put my feet on the inside half (toward the center of the board) of each camber zone for boosting pop, and smooth turn entry.

  22. Joe

Just got done with my 3rd day on this and if I had to sum it up in one sentence: holy *bleep* thing this is awesome!! This board is absolutely amazing. For reference, I’m in the beginner/intermediate skill range, 5’8″ 190lbs (I hit the gym a lot), riding the 155cm board size 9 boot, med flex boots/bindings. Right from the start I felt super confident and stable on this board. Edge control is great at slow speeds, but it really shines when you are at higher speeds and want to carve a little harder. I use this in PA where half the time there’s ice patches on the runs, and this board dgaf about that. I took this on some fresh pow, and it floats right on top. Ripped down some groomers, it’ll go as fast as you want it to. Popping some ollie’s and butter tricks are super smooth and easy, it’s got TONS of pop. This board is extremely forgiving for little mistakes made that I should’ve gone down on, but it had my back and kept me on my feet. When running over choppy snow, my knees hardly feel it. Haven’t gotten the skills to take it into the park yet, but I’m really looking forward to it! If you’re looking for a board to grow into and will stay with you for a long time, something that can do it all, looks sick, stop looking and just buy this damn thing. NS killed it with this, I absolutely love it 11/10 would highly recommend. Well done Never Summer!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Holy *bleep* thank you Joe!

PSA to my fellow big dudes: If you don’t have one of these, you’re doing life wrong.
    Size: 162 DF
As a 6’6” 180lb dude, I am typically cramming myself into a 13 boot (when I should be in a 14) just to try and mitigate heel/toe drag on traditional “wide” boards. At over 28cm of waist width on this beast, booting out is a distant memory of the dark times before NS was producing a Drag Free line. Aside from just being wide enough, this board is also stacked high with tech features making life easier and ultimately more fun. The new shockwave profile has noticeably more camber creating insane edge hold while the dampness is such that speed laps are smooth and buttery regardless of conditions. Getting edge to edge is also effortless which basically goes against science at this width but somehow it works. I cannot recommend this board enough for tall/big dudes out there tired of squeaking by on traditional “wide” boards. This board does it all and the Drag Free fit feels custom tailored. Thank you Never Summer for putting this beauty together. It is seriously so much fun to rip on this thing.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

We made it just for you Charlie! Thanks for the review.

  24. Tyler Elwell

I got to ride my 2021 157x for the first time yesterday at Wolf Creek. This is hands down the best board I’ve ever been on, and that list is long. I’ve never felt more locked in on day 1 with a board. This board ripped the whole mountain, has a ton of pop, but is still super damp and really forgiving given how gnarly it is. I got tired and lazy toward the end of the day on some turns and this board let me get away with it. This is my first Never Summer and I’m sure they just locked me in as a future customer. If you’re on the fence about this board, grab it, you will not regret it.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

Thx Tyler! Welcome to the family!

  25. Brandon Anderson (verified owner)

Got to ride this beauty opening day at Keystone last week (11/06/20) and man can I tell you this thing is friggin’ awesome! If you’re looking for something that hits the all mountain genre square on the head I firmly believe this is it. I may have only one day on the mountain with it sofar (11 runs) but can already tell its going to be exactly what I need to get that solid feeling at speed on the groomers, in the powder; as well as the power in the air park we all look for. Thanks again NeverSummer, you guys killed it for sure as always!

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Thank YOU Brandon!

  26. Dustin

Bought the Proto last year and only had one ride on it at Kirkwood before the shutdown. Rode it with mixed conditions with chopped powder on the wall and groomers below. Slayed the wall, the gullies and the groomers. Most agile board I’ve ever ridden. Typically with agility you get chatter at high-speed‘s, but not with this board. It was as stable as any board I’ve ever ridden when fully opened up at max speed and had incredible edge control. I’ve never ridden anything like it! This was a total game changer and improved my riding out of the gate. Best board ever ridden! Last board was the Lib Tech travis rice pro. Previous to that I’ve ridden the Capita Black Snowboard of Death, Burton Custom and Never Summer Titan.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

      Thanks Dustin!

  27. Henrique

    Absolutely fantastic.
Can’t wait to ride it again after my season was cut short.
NS are by far the best boards on the market today hands down.

      Thx Henrique!

Just waiting for the glue to dry. Last board was a 2005 Never Summer Legacy, best boards are made by these guys.

Haven’t had a chance to ride it yet, but if you’re buying for the looks it’s dope. Subtle enough to look good after being well used or just covered in snow, but also detailed enough to look great normally. Also a big fan of the new rocker/camper design. Looks like it will make the board perfectly flat when riding and make for some solid carving.

    • Chris Harris (verified owner)

Thanks Jackson! We can’t wait till you ride it…you’re going to love it! Let us know how it goes.
